Stoke-on-Trent, Saltburn arts and the bus incident...
HELLO! Firstly, sorry for another late blog post. In summer time slips away from me and I completely forget to keep my website and socials updated as so many little jobs crop up.
If you follow me across socials you will have seen I went on my pottery pilgrimage to Stoke-on-Trent and visited the potteries at the end of last month. It was such a wonderful and inspiring experience and gave me lots of ideas for future pots.
Unfortunately, after I finished my summer small-batch pottery collection I suffered with a trapped nerve in my shoulder which took me out of action for a few weeks. This means that I've only just got back to making pots this week, so my Autumnal small batch will be slightly delayed. I feel very grateful to have the best physio to help me through it and that time was never wasted as I got to paint and catch up with re-stocking cards and prints.
I'm so pleased to be taking part in Tom-orrow's second pop-up market at Saltburn Arts Centre on the 31st of August. I had such a good time last time I'm coming again for round two! Save the date and get yourselves there to shop small and local from artists and makers.
Lastly, let's talk about the bus incident. Some of you may be aware that a couple of weeks ago an arriva bus drove through the stone bridge at Grosmont and landed in the river. The driver and passenger were both safe however the incident left our village split into two as the bridge has been closed since. The council first proposed that the bridge wouldn't be fixed until February 2026. But after many complaints, we've since been told it will more likely be around 3 months. Despite being so pleased it's been pushed forward I can't help but feel upset that the village's summer trade has been wiped out this year. Road signs at Egton, Sleights and Moor Road have not made it clear which road is closed at Grosmont and the barricades and fencing have made us look very unappealing and uninviting. Consequently, the village has been much quieter than our usual summer. We are a very seasonal trade village and rely on the profits of summer to make it through the winter.
So, we will continue to push the council to make moves on fixing the bridge. In the meantime, please help us keep trading and keep us in mind when you're gifting for birthdays and Christmas. By shopping small, (even online) you're helping keep our village community alive!
