Skinner Street Commission, Painting & Whitby Artisan Christmas Market

Over the last month, in between markets and fairs, I worked on a painting commission of Skinner Street in Whitby. It featured the church, Youngs Jewellers, Fridas Cottage and Bothams. It was a charming, colourful, fun painting and I was pleased with how it turned out.

After finishing my commission I started dipping in between pottery and painting. I started with a bit of potting and made some dinner plates and pasta bowls for my next collection, which will be due about January time.

Then I moved on to painting and did an 11X14" painting of Runswick Bay.

I wanted to experiment with different ways of painting foliage in my style so I used this painting as an opportunity to improvise on some bushes and build up a contrast between pointillism-style textures and solid block colours. The original is available to buy in the gallery or on my website and I will create prints and cards from this painting in the new year.

Lastly, my final market of the year, Whitby Artisan Christmas Market was on the 9th of December, organised by Eilish from Glass Studio 40. The market hosted an amazing collection of local talented creatives selling their wares and it was such a joy to be a part of it. The mulled wine, mince pies, Christmas tree and local choir added a little festive magic!

Thank you so much to everyone who came and said lovely things about my work! It's always lovely meeting people from my hometown. A few people saw my surname and were able to figure out who my family were, which I think is so special and makes me feel blessed to live in a small community.

If you love buying hand-made from small businesses I highly recommend coming along next year if you missed us this time.
